I remember feeling so overwhelmed when I was making my registry for my baby shower. There are thousands of products marketed to new moms and newborns that claim you just have to have to make your like so much easier, and I just wasn’t buying it. Figuratively and literally.

I already don’t like having extra stuff around, so I made it a point to research and decide which things I thought I would really benefit from having and which stuff was purely marketing. Of course, there were a couple things that I didn’t end up using as much as I thought, but that’s why I made this list.

I included items that I found helpful for myself and my recovery postpartum, too. It’s so important to make sure you take care of yourself as you adjust to life not only with a new baby but also a new sense of self. There are so many changes going on internally and externally that every little thing you can do to find comfort and peace helps you which of course helps your baby.

In my opinion, you really don’t need much for a baby. Baby really only needs their mom for at least the first few months, and after that you can get little things as needed, but you can also use a lot of stuff that you already have around the house.

1. PRIMAL QUEEN BEEF ORGAN SUPPLEMENTS

These are the only supplements I take, and I believe they helped me so much with my recovery postpartum. They are designed for women and our hormones, which are all over the place right after giving birth. These provide all the essential nutrients you need for recovery, which just means one less thing to think about.

2. GLASS WATER BOTTLE

I have never been thirstier than when I was breastfeeding. I would drink a whole one of these almost every time I nursed Carter. I liked the size of the one I took home from the hospital, but I wanted to get one that wasn’t plastic. These also fit in a cup holder unlike the other big mason jars. This was one of my best purchases.

3.PROMIX ELECTORLYTE PACKETS

These go hand in hand with my water bottle. I drank a packet of these everyday. I would put them in ice water and drink them while sitting outside or going for a walk, and it always felt like such a treat. These are the only electrolyte packets I have found that taste good and don’t have stevia. I’m not a fan of stevia and think it has a weird after taste, so I try to avoid it.

4. SNOT SUCKER

I was so surprised how much I have used this thing. I still use it. This was one of the products that a lot of people highly recommended, and I can see why. It’s also oddly satisfying when you get a lot of snot out all at once.

5. NURSING FRIENDLY TANK TOPS

I never liked the look of tops that were designed for nursing. They just weren’t for me. I pretty much lived in these tank tops. I would either wear them on their own if it was warmer or under my t-shirts. They are so easy to pull up and nurse or pull down the strap and nurse, whichever you prefer. I still wear them now because they’re super comfortable and versatile.

6. AVOCADO PILLOW

I don’t think I got more than 2 hours of sleep at a time for at least 6 months. I had this pillow before I had a baby, but after having a baby I realized just how magical it was. It made what little sleep I was getting feel amazing. I will probably have to get Carter his own now, too because he is always stealing mine when he lays with me. They are a little pricey for a pillow, but I’ve had mine for years and still love it. They are great quality and you can wash them, too.

7. ORGANIC CASTOR OIL

If you know about castor oil, you know it has a long list of benefits. You can use it for castor oil packs, which can help with menstrual cramps, circulation, digestion, inflammation, detoxification, and more. It is well known for helping hair and nails grow, which is what I personally use it for because postpartum hair loss is real. I apply it to my eyelashes every night, and I make a hair mask using castor oil, coconut oil, rosemary oil and tea tree oil, and I apply it to my hair before I wash it once a week.

8. DRY BRUSH

Dry brushing was one of the things I would do for some self-care when I felt like I didn’t want to do anything or didn’t have time. It takes less than 10 minutes to dry brush your body before you shower and it feels so relaxing and helps with your circulation and lymphatic system. Since the pack came with 2, I also had one for Carter to help with cradle cap by gently brushing his head every couple days. I still use it as his hair brush now, and he loves it.

10. MABEL MAE’S LACTATION TREATS

This is a woman owned, small business based out of Charleston, South Carolina. The owner is one of the sweetest, most hard working woman I’ve ever met. Her passion is helping all moms feel their best and take care of themselves. I actually worked for her while I was pregnant, so I was eating them my entire pregnancy.

She makes the best (and healthiest) lactation treats to help with milk supply. I never struggled with my supply, but it could be because I ate these just about everyday. They ship nation wide, and you don’t even have to be nursing to enjoy them. It’s always nice to have a healthy delicious snack option.
