Hydration: the ultimate health hack

As it starts to get warmer, I have been noticing myself feeling dehydrated more quickly. I am one of those people who can taste the difference between water brands, and I love water. It’s what I drink 90% of the time.

Lately, I have been hearing a lot about proper hydration. Meaning, it’s not enough to just drink water. It might not even be hydrating you at all. Our bodies need salt and other electrolytes.

Specifically, our cells need salt to be able to function correctly and optimally. If we drink water without salt, we are essentially drowning our cells because salt is needed to keep the balance.

When we are hydrated, our skin is clearer and brighter. We have more energy and think more clearly which often leads us to making better choices for ourselves and others. Hydration also helps improve our digestion and keeps things moving. We also need hydration to replenish our electrolyte balance after a big workout or sweat session (summer in the south) as well as recovering quicker.

EASY WAYS TO GET EXTRA HYDRATION IN YOUR DAY

  • Add a pinch of sea salt (has the minerals we need) to your water
    *add a squeeze of lemon or lime for some flavor
  • Add premade electrolyte packets to your water
    *ProMix is my favorite & the only one I have found without stevia
  • Invest in a big water bottle that you can sip on throughout the day
  • Bring a glass of water with you to bed and drink first thing when you wake up
  • Incorporate teas, infused waters, or other beverages that still hydrate
  • Eat your water by adding in more fruits and veggies like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber, tomato, celery, and spinach
